Cartas de viaje (1982 – 1985)

My artistic practice starts after my studies, with the series Cartas de viaje (Travel Diary) along with my engravings and aquatint. In this series of works on paper and paintings on canvas I tried to understand the image as text and topography. These works reflect my interests in the theories of language, French structuralism and the central questions of anthropology and archeology. The sign as a cipher and a scripture becomes the subject and the object of my work. In turn, it is understood as carriers of cultural memory.

In the late seventies and early eighties a military dictatorship ruled Argentina. At this time my work was about finding a strategy to survive and searching for social identity.
