Ballena para vitrina (2017 work-in-progress)
An aleatoric work that plays with the image of the whale as a metaphor for Mexico City — the whale of Jonah or the white whale of Captain Ahab. The question is how to survive, or how to avoid being annihilated. To accept being devoured would be the answer, and thus become part of a pulsating and throbbing organism that moves and reproduces itself. Do not resist. Do not give in to fear, while carried and cradled in the immense stomach of the animal. The work is designed to be presented in museum showcases or on large tables. A game between the architectural models of an imaginary city. An experiment with materials and surfaces as well as the form and meaning associated with them.
The whale as Mexico City, Mexico City as the world?
